There are some beautiful homes and a wide array of terrains from flat sunny pastures, soaring redwoods and ocean vistas, to tall pines and sandy soils. It is more of a rural bedroom community rather than having any defined center. There are many large parcels that offer privacy and tranquility and a range of climates for a variety of plants. The area has been farmed with a wide variety of products from grapes to apples to cattle and turkeys. Highway 1 also provides access to the area, and Davenport is just about 15 minutes away. Bonny Doon is a tranquil state of mind.
At the top of the mountain are some Christmas tree farms that people frequent. Beauregard Vineyards has their tasting room there, too. While many of the area vineyards were hit with a disease that afflicted the industry (see Pierce Disease link below), the local wine growing tradition lives on. Bonny Doon Elementary is well regarded and has outstanding parental involvement. As the school is about the only large structure up there, it serves as a meeting area for the community. The weather is usually hotter than down by the coast by about 10-15 degrees most times and is normally always sunny, check here. There is the Rural Bonny Doon Fire Department that the locals gather around and support as well as the Rural Bonny Doon Association. The RBDA is a vocal local group dedicated to keeping the area rural.
